Nominated by Director: Jennifer Peak
Born in Moose Jaw, SK, Ryan’s passion for music, specifically classical music, came to light at a young age and was nurtured heavily by his parents. This allowed him to begin playing double bass in 2011 and eventually continue on to the University of Regina where he majored in bass during his studies there. Throughout university, Ryan became more committed to all aspects of the trade, pursuing connections for composing and conducting. Prior to the completion of his degrees in Music and Music Education, Ryan began working with Maestro Adrian Casas and the Regina Community Orchestra (RCO) to develop and refine his conducting techniques. In 2024, Ryan attended the Saskatchewan Orchestral Association’s International Saito Conducting Workshop in Saskatoon where he studied with Wayne Toews. Ryan continues to work with the RCO and Maestro Casas, and has also had the joy of conducting primary and high school aged students in Estevan, Moose Jaw, and Regina.
Nominated by Director: Brenda Yu
Originally from Wisconsin, Jennifer’s love of music was sparked early, including passion for classical music that began as a teenager playing baritone in a student ensemble.
After university, she moved to Regina, Saskatchewan, where she fell in love with th mandolin. In 2016, she joined the Regina Mandolin Orchestra and has been active ever since, performing at cultural festivals, community events, and care homes throughout the city. In addition to serving on the board of directors, she also enjoys teaching adult students through Regina Mandolin Orchestra’s lesson program, and will happily expound on the virtues of the instrument to anyone who will listen.
When not playing mandolin, she enjoys playing old-time fiddle tunes on the violin and is an avid listener of both classical and contemporary orchestral music.
